Snowboard
Enhancement Seminar
Hey, I don’t need no stinkn’ class. I mean, like, how
hard is it anyway? If I wanna go fast, I point my board downhill. If I
wanna go slow, just turn it across. If I wanna turn, just tip it and let
‘er rip. Watcha gonna do all day long, talk?
If it were that simple boarders wouldn’t have wrist
injuries, do knee slams, face plants, or have padding for hips and rear
ends. Life’s not fun when it hurts to sit, or you can’t work because you
broke your wrist. Yes, we’ll talk. But it will be cause and effect and not
endless drivel on the side of the run. We’ll also video you. Not to make
you self conscious but to help you see what you’re doing and when and where
a change will help you. You’ll probably fall. I do. But we’ll cover some
safe falling techniques to lessen the impact and by the end of the day
you’ll know why you’re falling and what to do to correct it. You’ll also
meet some fellow snowboarders from throughout the region. Sharing tips and
problems with someone in the same situation as you can be invaluable.
Join us Saturday Jan 19th at Tyrol Basin.
Registration is 8-9 am. End around 4pm. Registration forms are in this
Sweep or online at nsp-southcentral.org. Contact me with any questions at

See you on the slopes!

Ps The above class counts as a Senior Elective.
Senior is a great program. At the moment there’s only three Senior
Snowboarders in this region. There should be more! Also, there’s no rule
about taking this class a second or third time. It takes a while to absorb
the material and change bad habits. I take 3-4 ski or snowboarding classes
every season. I’m still not where I want to be but I don’t crash and burn
like I used to.
Snowboarding 101
New this year, we’re holding a Snowboarding 101 class.
This class is designed as an entry level snowboarding class that assumes
limited experience. If you’re a skier who snowboards infrequently because
you realize your skills aren’t the same or a snowboarder who isn’t confident
in your abilities on steeper, icier, or uneven terrain, this class is for
you. We’ll stay on moderate terrain and cover a lot of the same items that
are covered in a beginning snowboarding lesson. We’ll video you so you can
see the things you’re feeling. In the afternoon, we’ll work with
toboggans. We’ll give you some controlled runs that’ll boost your
confidence and help you with basic elements. I wish I’d taken a class like
this years ago. I’d have less bad habits to break now and have experienced
less bruises and road rash.
