Senior Alpine
This year's Regional Senior on-hill events will once
again be held on the fine slopes of Cascade Mountain. The candidate clinic
is now a 2-day event scheduled for the weekend of January 10th,
with the toboggan clinic on Saturday and ski pro on Sunday. The evaluation
will take place a month later, on Saturday February 14th.
A big push has been made in recent years to refine the
quality and uniformity of Senior events across the Division. These efforts
are reflected in the Central Division Senior Manual available for download
at http://www.nsp-southcentral.org/Library/Library/library.htm. This manual
clearly describes the expectations of and requirements for becoming a Senior
patroller.
I'm particularly proud of the progress we've made
within the Regional Senior program. We now have upper level PSIA alpine,
telemark and AASI snowboard instructors throughout our ski pro
calibration/evaluation team and incorporate video analysis in the candidate
clinic. The toboggan team has benefited greatly from calibrating yearly
with other divisional evaluators and instructors at the Divisional Ski
Trainer Workshops at Granite Peak.
If you're up for the challenge and benefits of taking
your patrolling up to the next level, please consider participating in this
year's events. An application is available in this SWEEP, or online at the
same web address as the manual. The deadline for application submission is
December 30th. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may
have about the program and we hope and look forward to seeing you in
January.
